Is there room on the Internet for another personal health and wellness journey? You know what, I think there is! Obesity is destroying more and more lives every single day. Reversing this global epidemic begins with me and with you.
While movements like “Healthy At Every Size” and advocates of “Intuitive Eating” have good intentions, and those strategies work for some, they don’t align with my health needs. Although I admit that these methods and movements have helped many, I’m here to navigate and discuss why they didn’t work for me.
Fat Activism: Not My Movement After All
Back in the day, I was all-in with Fat Activism. I waved that flag high, embracing every curve and pound. And let me tell you, there’s a lot of good in that movement—it’s a powerhouse of body positivity and a real game-changer for many. But here’s the kicker: while it was a beacon for some, for me, it turned out to be a bit of a misfit. I cherished the empowerment it gave so many, but it wasn’t hitting the mark health-wise for me.
I’ve realized it’s not a one-size-fits-all deal—pun intended! For some, Fat Activism is their anthem, and it works wonders. I needed a different tune to dance to—one more in sync with my health goals and body needs. It’s about finding what resonates with your health and happiness, right?
So, while I tip my hat to the incredible strides of Fat Activism and its role in challenging societal norms, I’ve embarked on a different path—one that’s more aligned with my health journey. It’s not about right or wrong; it’s about what’s suitable for me. And hey, that’s the beauty of life—we get to remix it to our tune.
Looking for Body Neutrality and Honesty
I’m also here to find a community of people who want to live healthier lives and course-correct the current state of their health. I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’ve fucked up my body and my health by following ideologies and advice that weren’t right for me.
Now, I’m working like crazy on getting better and getting well. FWIW, I did start this journey well before the New Year, so this isn’t a fleeting surge of sudden health and wellness resolutions; this is a commitment I’m making public because I need that new level of accountability.
Filling the Midlife Void on the Internet
I feel it’s vital to share my story online because I don’t see many people in their fifties talking about this stuff. I’ve observed significant health misinformation that I believe is potentially harmful. People are starting to fall off the face of the Earth at young ages because they’re following belief systems more than science. I’ve noticed increasing health concerns related to obesity, which is a reminder of the potential consequences of this condition.
Respect for All Sizes
Hey, I get it. We’re all on different paths and facing battles, especially concerning our bodies and health. While my journey has led me down this road, I respect that your path might look different. Whether you’re rocking the body positivity vibe, navigating your health challenges, or figuring out what works best for you, I salute you. I will always be an advocate of body autonomy and choice while also championing the reversal of morbid obesity. It’s not my place to judge anyone else’s journey—stick around, and you’ll see I’ve had enough twists and turns on my own! So, let’s agree to navigate these tricky waters with mutual respect and understanding. We might not share the same experiences, but we’re all on this crazy ride of life together. And that, my friends, deserves some profound respect and support.
Weighing In: Mind, Body & Soul
Finally, when I say I’m here to “weigh in,” it’s a play on words. I will come here to weigh in on the scale, too, but I’m mostly here to weigh in on what I’m feeling, what I’ve been through, what I’m going through now, and what I see on the Internet.
I look forward to sharing my process and progress with you here.
